Meet the Team Supporting NSCP Members: A Q&A with Ingrid Nordskog

Ingrid Nordskog is NSCP’s Association Engagement Coordinator 

1. What is your role at NSCP, and how do you support our members?

I have had many roles over the course of my time with NSCP, and my favorite part of each one has been getting to know our members and helping them to get the most out of their membership.  In my current role as Association Engagement Coordinator, I serve as the main point of contact for member inquiries, manage membership applications and renewals, maintain accurate records within the association’s database, monitor membership trends, identify opportunities for growth and member retention, and provide logistical and administrative support across many different areas, including volunteer opportunities, Currents Live webinars, NSCP Currents and the Publications Committee.

2. What drew you to working in the association space?

For those who may not know, NSCP was originally founded in my home state of Connecticut.  When I saw the opportunity to work with a local association, I jumped at the chance to get involved with NSCP and to support its mission and members.  While NSCP’s headquarters have since moved to Washington, DC, I now work remotely and feel fortunate to be able to continue to deepen my relationship with the association and its members each day.  

At the beginning of my tenure, I completed the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) Certificate Program in Association Management.  ASAE has proven to be a fantastic resource for many in the association space.  I regularly browse the ASAE discussion areas and attend webinars, as I continue to search for and learn about new opportunities that I can share with NSCP and our members.  

3. What’s one thing you wish more members knew about your role?

While all of us on the NSCP team work tirelessly to bring members the many member benefits available to them, I do sincerely hope that all NSCP members will feel comfortable reaching out to me, not just by email, but by phone, or scheduling a virtual call.  I truly do want to help members to get the most out of their membership and no matter how busy I am working behind the scenes, I always have time to help, whether that’s doing a demo of the Member Center, explaining how to access NSCP Currents articles or Currents Live recordings, how to join a forum, working group, or volunteer for any number of our many committees.  To me, no question is a silly question and I wish that members knew that I really want to help them, not just because it’s my job, but because I truly believe in NSCP as an organization and I want nothing more than for our members to be able to take full advantage of the many resources that are available to them.  

What do you enjoy most about being part of the NSCP team?

4. Our current team at NSCP is a lot of fun to work with and we are all very passionate about what we do.  As a relatively small team, we all wear many hats and while we are always looking to the future, we also “bob and weave” together as challenges arise.  Even though we are spread out geographically, we are a tight-knit group and constantly stay in touch over Teams calls and joint projects.   

5. What’s your go-to way to recharge or reset outside of work?

My favorite way to recharge is to simply get outside and enjoy the outdoors.  Whether I’m walking, hiking, riding my bike, swimming, skiing or gardening, I find being out in the sunshine (or the rain and snow) to be an essential part of each day.

6. Coffee order or favorite afternoon snack?

How do I take my coffee?  Seriously.  Very seriously.  😉
