Meet the Team Supporting NSCP Members: A Q&A with Laura Papera

Association Updates,

Laura Papera is NSCP’s Director of Association Engagement

1. What is is your role at NSCP, and how do you support our members?

As the Director of Association Engagement, I’m tasked with growing and retaining our membership and sponsors, and providing a positive experience every time they engage with NSCP.

2. What drew you to working in the association space?

Many years ago, I worked very closely with a non-profit organization during its fledgling years. It is now one of the largest non-profit organizations in the area, and I’m proud that I was part of the team that got it off the ground. After 30 years in the financial services industry, I wanted to challenge myself to use my knowledge and skills from that industry in a different way, so this opportunity seemed like a perfect fit.

3. What’s one thing you wish more members knew about your role?

We want to make their experience with NSCP awesome, so member feedback is very important in my role. We really do listen, and appreciate both the good and the not so good.

4. What do you enjoy most about being part of the NSCP team?

We laugh, we work hard, we challenge each other and we appreciate that the efforts of all are working toward a common goal: To educate, connect, and empower a community of diverse financial services compliance professionals.

5. What’s your go-to way to recharge or reset outside of work?

I love to sing, and I do it often, even when I’m not in the shower. I love almost all genres, although show tunes are my favorite. Singing lifts me up and keeps me going, although my neighbors may not appreciate my caterwauling at all hours.

6. Coffee order or favorite afternoon snack?

I’m not a coffee drinker, but I love tea and I have a teacup and tea pot collection. My go-to in the morning is Honey Lemon Ginseng, but Irish Cream and Carmel Butterscotch with a scone are my favorites. And then there’s always Diet Coke/Diet Pepsi!
