Meet the Team Supporting NSCP Members: A Q&A with Debbie McCoy

Association Updates,

1. What is your role at NSCP, and how do you support our members?

As Executive Assistant and Board Liaison, I help keep NSCP’s leadership organized and focused on strategic priorities. Think of me as a key connector between staff, leadership, the Board, operating committees, and our members. While much of my work happens behind the scenes, it directly supports our members and NSCP’s mission to educate, connect, and empower a community of diverse financial services compliance professionals.

2. What drew you to working in the association space?

I didn’t originally plan to work in the association space, but I was looking for an opportunity to make a difference and help others. My background is in the C-Suite at public companies across the financial, retail, pharmaceutical, oil & gas, and manufacturing industries.

Since joining NSCP, I’ve come to value its mission-driven focus. I’m drawn to its purpose of educating and serving members, and I find it especially rewarding to support an organization dedicated to advancing and strengthening its professional community.

3. What’s one thing you wish more members knew about your role?

Many may not realize how diverse my role is or how it directly and indirectly supports our members and volunteers. A great example is schedule coordination. I recently received a note from a member’s EA that meant a lot to me: “Thanks, Debbie! I don’t know how you keep up with all the scheduling – you are a rockstar! You do a great job at maneuvering all the schedules!” Comments like this remind me that even the day-to-day tasks have a meaningful impact. My goal is always to make things easier for others, even if the work happens quietly in the background.

4. What do you enjoy most about being part of the NSCP team?

The best part of being on this team is the people. It’s all about trust, respect, real camaraderie, learning from each other, and being able to have fun while getting things done. When you think about it, if you don’t enjoy what you’re doing and the people around you, why are you there?

5. What’s your go-to way to recharge or reset outside of work?

I love spending quality time with my family and our fur babies. I enjoy gardening, listening to music, and singing in my church choir. I also have a passion for genealogy and learning about my heritage. When I really want to unwind, I’m happiest relaxing by the pool or on a white, sandy beach with a good book.

6. Coffee order or favorite afternoon snack?

I enjoy a good cup of black coffee – no cream, no sugar. My favorite blends are Café Ole’s Texas Pecan and Peet’s Major Dickenson. When I treat myself to coffee out, it’s usually a “foo-foo” drink like a lavender latte or caramel macchiato with extra caramel on top. My afternoon snacks tend to be on the healthier side like almonds, grapes, or baby carrots to keep me going.
